Today is the day before we leave for California, and I'm doing laundry.WhooHoo!! But I'm also watching a show on the History Channel called "American Eats". This particular episode is on the production and influence of ice cream in America, and they interview the guy with the best job in the world. ICE CREAM TESTER! All this guy does at work is eat... ice cream! I wonder how you get into that? But I bet if I ever was lucky enough to find myself as an ice cream tester I would be very overweight. Because once I start, I can't stop. It would go something like this:
Hmmm.... that first spoonful tasted a little off. I'm going to have to test this whole carton of mint chip. Nope I was wrong that was perfect! Next!!!

A Haircut, A Haul and A Holy Cannoli!
Hi there, as you have probably noticed this blog has been neglected recently. Apparently when I put myself on any kind of schedule that only I am aware of, I slack off because I know I can get away with it! So from now on I am just going to be a free spirit and blog whenever I feel prompted to, but at least once a week.
Haircut. I finally got a haircut! On my day off last week I was cleaning my room and doing laundry for pretty much the whole morning and into the afternoon. Once I finally changed out of my pajamas I realized that I had taken a shower the night before put my hair into a ponytail and had done nothing since. Needless to say my hair was a crazy mess: curly, long, tangled, crispy and overall just horrendous. I started thinking about having to straighten that beast (it usually takes me about 50 mins.) and I was just DONE! I wanted clean fresh hair, and I wanted it right then! So I threw some makeup on and drove to the nearest salon, ready to say goodbye to some serious inches. I was not able to donate my hair this time :( I was scared to go too short and my hair was too damaged to donate anyway. Haircuts are just awesome! That fresh feeling at your new ends, new hair-styles, and a fun new look.
Haul. On youtube when a fashionista or makeup guru shares some of their recent purchases in a video it's called a haul. Like they bought so much stuff they had to haul it in. I am definitely NOT a fashionista or even a big spender but I have been shopping more because I have had a little extra cash lately and an epic employee discount. So here's what I've picked up this summer:
Purple Down East Basics dress ($17.19): Great deal! And it's an amazing summer church dress.
Purple Gap shirt ($10.65): I needed a purple shirt for employee appreciation day so I stopped by and got a cute v-neck one from my favorite store!
Gap real straight jeans ($34.74): Gap jeans are simply the best! They fit in all the right places and they stretch to become your favorite everyday jeans.
Nordstrom coat ($53.32): Little bit of a splurge! It's so cute though, I'm ready for winter..... in a few more months.
Old Navy Shirts ($7.50 each): I had had my eye on these shirts since we got them in earlier this summer so when they went on sale I pounced! They are just normal scoop neck tees but they have beautiful horizontal lace stripes. I bought a dark blue one for me and a pink one for my mom.
I guess in these instances you kind of have to see these things in order to make any kind of judgement about if you like them or not...
By the way this is for the whole summer. Truthfully I am pretty frugal, I understand that there are things I need to get that are more inmortant then the latest trends. Textbooks aren't sexy but they sure are spendy!
Holy Cannoli: My speech goes through phases and this most recent one is saying "Holy Cannoli!". It just comes out, and it's quite embarrassing when it does. I don't even like cannolis! Not that I've had very many in my lifetime..

Things are Looking Up!
I'm getting really excited!! Lots of good things are about to happen.
So I have been working my butt off this summer....working. I have two jobs: I'm a customer service rep. at Old Navy and I'm a substitute lifeguard at a country club. But I am finally going on vacation! About a week in California visiting familiy and friends, beach, and just relaxing..... ahhhh I can't wait. We are going to be there for my birthday so that should be fun also.
School is about to start! and yes I'm weird and I like school, especially since starting college. I absolutely love shopping for pens and new notebooks (I'm an uber-organizer). I think overall I just really enjoy being busy, working hard and getting things done is kind of a thrill for me. So that's coming up and I'm way stoked :)
Probably the coolest thing thats about to happen won't happen for a few more months but still I can't wait! I have a year old Shih-tzu named Thor and I love him to death, I never got around to fixing him (mostly because I couldn't afford it) and about a month ago I was approached by one of my step dad's relatives who has a female Shih-tzu. They are both pure bred AKC registered Shih-tzus so we agreed to breed them! Thor spent this past weekend at the relative's house and we just got him back today. I am so excited to see some puppies soon!
Oh yes and I'm planning on getting a haircut soon, I understand that this is not a monumental event but for me it kind of is. I haven't gotten a haircut for about a year now, I've been saving! I have tried sooo many times to grow out and then donate my hair but I always give in to soon. But this time I did it! It will be a shorter cut but I finally have 10 good inches of usable hair! Hooray!
Good things to come! I'll keep you posted ;)

This Took Longer Than I Thought it Would
So today was a pretty good day. I can honestly say that I love my job! Yes, it's still work and it's not all fun and games but I enjoy talking to people. Even thought talking to customers can seem like a drag, most of the customers at my work are fun and upbeat.
I thought that this first official blog post could be like a getting to know me post. I know that at this moment I am writing to no one in particular, but what the heck why not. let's get started.
My name is Melissa! I grew up in southern California and I moved to Utah for my senior year of high school. I miss the beach and I definitely miss having a summer tan but I absolutely love the atmosphere and beautiful scenery of Utah. In a couple of weeks I will be starting my sophomore year at the University of Utah. It took me a while to figure out a major. It's such a stessful decision, but I finally decided on occupational therapy. I love helping others and the prospect of helping patients restore control of their body sounds like a job I wouldn't mind having . I love shopping especially with my employee discount. I am currently single looking for a handsome and sweet guy who can make me laugh. I am a crazy morning person! Yes you read that right, I love seeing the sunrise and I do my best work in the morning. But watch out when I'm tired I get super cranky, I am not one of those party people who can not go to bed and be just fine. I have the most ravenous sweet tooth you can imagine, at any given time I could tell you at least five things I am craving. The list usually starts with Red Vines.... I love my family more than I could ever express and I am so thankful for them. I have a sweet puppy his name is Thor and he is my little snuggly buggly! That's pretty much it. Well there's actually more but I feel like this paragraph is a little rambly so I'll stop.
If you're reading this thanks for reading!

Honest to Blog?!
I always thought that blogs were for people who couldn't contain their rambling thoughts in the facebook status bar or people who wanted the entire world to know what their cat was up to this week. But recently i've decided that I need to create some sort of record for myself to look back on in the future, and a blog was a perfect way to do that!
Well, actually my first choice was a youtube channel. But I have no equipment, no technological experience, and no idea how to edit film.....So that idea was out.
I was thinking that this blog could be like a hybrid between the two. I plan to post every Monday and Thursday and my posts will be mostly about my life, but I will also throw in some reviews and pictures.
It should be nice to see my blog unfold, hopefully it will be exciting and interactive for anyone who decides to take a gander! My title says it all I promise not to post anything that is not uplifting or at least comical. Let's be honest with life, work, school and everyday drama, no one wants to come home and read a disheartening blog post.
